Revolver Co-operative Q&A

We're delighted to announce that we are now working with Revolver, a multi stakeholder co-operative, owned by producers, workers and consumers, with fair trading at the heart of what they do.

Being a worker co-operative ourselves, we're thrilled when we get to work with another co-operative to help them achieve their mission, so we jumped at the chance to collaborate with Revolver by helping them distribute their Fairtrade teas and coffees across Scotland.

We'll let Revolver take over at this point to tell you more about their mission in our Q&A with them, and how they go about helping to make the world a better place.

1.   How did your business come into being?

Revolver Co-operative was founded in 2008 with a simple goal: to create a fairer way of trading coffee and tea. As a producer, worker and consumer-owned co-operative, we believe business should benefit everyone involved, from the growers at origin to the customers enjoying our products. Over the years, we’ve built long-term relationships with farming communities across the world, sourcing exceptional Fairtrade and organic products while supporting sustainable livelihoods. Today, our range has grown to include premium speciality coffees, and teas, all produced with the same commitment to ethical sourcing, quality and transparency that inspired the business from the very beginning.

2.    You put a lot of effort into sourcing your ingredients, what are your guiding principles and favourite products?

Everything begins with the people who grow our products. We work closely with trusted producer co-operatives, selecting ingredients that meet high standards for quality, sustainability and traceability. Fairtrade and organic certification remain central to our sourcing, ensuring growers receive fair prices while protecting the environment. We favour ingredients with genuine provenance and distinctive flavour rather than simply chasing the lowest cost. Among our favourites are our single-origin Malawi teas, which offer exceptional character while directly supporting farming communities, and our speciality coffees sourced from long-standing producer partners around the world.

3.    What is your brand mission and what is it you hope to do by bringing your products to the market?

Our mission is to prove that great taste and ethical business can go hand in hand. We want to make premium Fairtrade and organic products more accessible without compromising on quality or values. Every purchase supports farming communities, encourages sustainable agriculture and demonstrates that consumers can make positive choices through everyday products. By bringing carefully sourced coffee and tea to market, we hope to inspire greater appreciation for the people behind every cup while helping retailers offer products that customers can genuinely feel good about buying.

4.    Why do you use Greencity Wholefoods as a wholesaler?

Greencity Wholefoods shares many of the values that are important to us. Their commitment to ethical trading, sustainability and supporting independent producers makes them a natural partner for Revolver. We appreciate working with a wholesaler that understands the importance of Fairtrade and organic products and actively promotes businesses with a positive social and environmental impact. Their strong relationships with independent retailers help introduce our products to customers who value quality and responsible sourcing, making Greencity an important part of helping us grow while staying true to our principles.

5.    If you could invite three people to a dinner party who would they be, and why?

We’d invite Sir David Attenborough, Anita Roddick, and Edna Ruth Byler. Sir David Attenborough has inspired generations to value and protect the natural world, reminding us why sustainability matters. Anita Roddick, founder of The Body Shop, demonstrated that businesses can succeed while championing ethical sourcing, human rights and environmental responsibility. Edna Ruth Byler, founder of Ten Thousand Villages, was a pioneer of the Fairtrade movement, creating opportunities for artisans and producers around the world long before ethical trade became mainstream. Together, they represent the values that continue to inspire everything we do at Revolver.

6.    What are your plans for the future?

We’re continuing to expand our range while remaining true to our co-operative values. Recent additions include our premium Malawi tea collection and ceremonial-grade Japanese matcha, and we’re constantly exploring new products that combine exceptional quality with ethical sourcing. Alongside product development, we’re investing in more sustainable packaging, strengthening relationships with our producer partners and growing our presence with independent retailers and foodservice customers. Our ambition is simple: to bring even more people outstanding coffee and tea that supports growers, protects the environment and demonstrates that ethical products can also be exceptional. We often say, “What we do is simple, but revolutionary” by putting people, quality and fairness at the heart of every decision, we believe we’re helping to create a better world for everyone involved, from farm to cup.
