September is the month to celebrate all things organic, with the help of the Soil Association’s 'Organic September' campaign, and if you didn’t know, it’s also Scottish Food & Drink month too.
Since we have always supported both passionately, we figured why not both when it came to deciding what this feature would be all about. It’s always been part of our mission to provide a viable and fair route to market for small Scottish suppliers, and
when they happen to also be organic, even better.
So please let us introduce you to a selection of the Scottish organic suppliers we work with.
Check out our website for many more, but only after you’ve read this of course.
Connage Highland Dairy
Connage Highland Dairy are a family-owned organic business situated at Ardesier in the Scottish Highlands.
We’ve been helping them distribute their delicious organic products across Scotland for around 20 years, in particularly their multi-awardwinning range of cheeses.
They use traditional techniques and a state-of-the-art dairy to produce their organic, handcrafted vegetarian cheeses using milk from their own herd, which grazes the luscious clover pastures around the dairy and along the shores of the Moray Firth.
All their products are fully traceable, and assurances can be given for the highest standard of animal husbandry.
Chocolate Tree
Alastair and Friederike Gower at the Chocolate Tree have been producing award winning delicious organic craft chocolate in East Lothian since 2005.
They work with agro-forested cacao beans, carefully sourced from small holder farms in South and Central America.
Their mission is to protect biodiversity for a positive impact on people and the planet and everything they do is driven by consideration for the environment, right through to their artfully designed plastic-free packaging.
We're delighted to be able to bring their excellent high-quality bean-to-bar chocolate to customers all across Scotland.
Dear Green
When we were looking for a partner to help us produce an organic Greencity coffee, Dear Green were the perfect choice.
Also based in Glasgow, this award-winning woman-led business started back in 2011 with one trusty roaster and a mission to bring seriously delicious ethically sourced, specialty-grade coffee to Scotland. They work only with carefully selected and trusted import partners and producers which means there’s transparency, traceability and sustainability in every roast.
They’ve grown to become a widely loved and much respected business, supplying coffee, equipment and training across Glasgow and beyond. Try our collaborative organic coffee blend, Dear Green City.
£1 from every bag of Dear Green City coffee sold goes into a donation pot which is shared between The Wash House and Green Heart Growers.
Ocelot
Ocelot was founded in 2013 by Matt and Ish, in their Edinburgh kitchen.
Inspired by a shared passion for fine food, they went on a culinary journey that found them cooking around Europe, a journey which ultimately culminated in the craft chocolate
brand you now see. More than a decade on, their chocolate is now made by a tight-knit team in a small production situation in Dundee, Scotland.
They take pride in fusing the world’s best ingredients with the world’s finest most ethical chocolate. All of their chocolate is certified organic, made with unrefined cane sugar, and never contains preservatives or emulsifiers.
Island Bakery
The Island Bakery opened their first shop on Tobermory’s colourful Main Street in 1996, as the Island Bakery Delicatessen.
It was whilst running this business they spotted a gap in the market for tempting organic biscuits and in 2001 Island Bakery Organics was born with a modest but high-quality range four products.
The success of their baking was such they decided to close their deli in 2007 to focus on their expanding range of organic baked goods. In 2012 they moved into a larger purpose built bakery, powered by local renewable energy and they now have a range of 19 sweet and savoury organic biscuits.
Mungoswells
Mungoswells Farm can be found just north of Haddington in the heart of East Lothian.
The farm, owned and run by the McDowall family for over a century, produces a great range of quality, award-winning Scottish flours, both organic and non-organic, with ‘unrivalled traceability’.
They grow, mill and pack their products right there on the farm, helping keep food miles to a minimum. The flours they produce are rich in protein and fibre, and their wholemeal range is truly unrefined, resulting in a more nutritious choice. Their flours, loved by many across Scotland, work well for a wide range of baked goods.
Cliftonhill Farm
Our lovely Greencity organic oats come from Cliftonhill Farm near Selkirk in the beautiful Scottish Borders.
They’ve been growing oats for over 30 years and it’s their mission to share the best organically grown, naturally delicious Scottish oats with you too.
As the Greencity team can attest, Cliftonhill Farm organic oats are full of flavour and make a beautifully creamy porridge, it’s daily fuel for a great many of us. You could say we’re powered by organic porridge!

Slow Sauce
We’re delighted to have recently welcomed Slow Sauce into the Greencity product fold, Scotland’s first small-batch miso and shoyu brewery, based in Banchory, Aberdeenshire.
Fermentation obsessives and culinary experts both, Jonathan and Robyn, have come together to create a range of Great Taste award winning fermented Japanese condiments, and they’ve done it right here in Scotland using Scottish oats.
They've taken the classic Japanese method of koji fermentation and reimagined it with ingredients available in Scotland to create a range of products that remain respectful of the process heritage.
They ferment slowly, seasonally, and seriously, taking no short-cuts.
