It’s that time of year again for the Speciality Show; the only trade show in Scotland to showcase the diverse and vibrant speciality food and drink sector. Over 170 companies turned up to Glasgow’s SEC to exhibit thousands of products – and, of course, we were one of them.

In amongst well-established companies that successfully fly the flag for Scottish produce, new emerging businesses only at the start of their journey displayed innovative food products to an estimated 20,000 visitors. Interest was international; with guests travelling from the US, Japan and Australia looking to stock the best that Scotland has to offer. As a business that has been trading for over 40 years, its wonderful to see the growth in quality food and drink available right on our very doorstep.

The main benefit of exhibiting at the trade show is the ability to interact with potential and current customers and gain necessary feedback to keep our business growing and flourishing. We were thrilled to hear that our reputation as an ethical, local and fair-trade wholesaler has developed customer trust and loyalty throughout the years, and our wide-range of over 4000 products allows our clients to try something new along with reliable favourites. In addition, we were also able to catch up with several of our trusted suppliers at the event, including Two Birds, Paisley Drinks, Alba Cola, Aye Pickled and Edinburgh Honey. Gaining responses and ideas for improvement is greatly valued by all of us at Greencity, and we are now motivated to deliver a more user-friendly experience in future.

Sustainability was at the forefront of conversation at the event, and it was great to see new ideas for conscious packaging on display across the arena. In regards to our efforts, Greencity are proud to be currently collaborating with the University of Strathclyde to develop a new non-plastic packaging for our own-brand wholefoods to limit our impact on the environment. Watch this space!

If there is any message that should be taken from the Speciality Show, its that as a community we should be proud of our achievements in bringing Scottish excellence to the world of food and drink.

Greencity will be at lot N62 until Tuesday 21st January. Swing by and say hello!
